The Anfield wedding cake, created for a real super fan. The top tier is a scale model of Anfield`s main gate from the out side, seating for fans and a cross section view of the pitch finely detailed even down to the drainage pipes at the rear of the cake. The 2nd tier held the dressing room , individual boxed cakes, layered choc and plain sponge filled with butter cream, decorated as a tiled wall in chocolate paste holds a shirt hung up on a miniature coat hanger. Each guest had their name hand painted above the number on the shirt. Making these not just a piece of wedding cake but a very personal thank you gift. The base: Three faux iced footballs created a stand to hold up the cake, giving height to the design with out to much cake.  The hand made topper was made to keep so was crafted from modeling clay and mounted on a mirrored plate. The wedding took place at Anfield`s ground in one of the executive boxes looking on to the pitch, What a dream wedding!

The top layer was a scaled down model of the Kop at Anfields ground, with plenty of detail to keep any super fan happy including a hand piped dark chocolate “you`ll never walk alone” gate and fence. Stood at the very top is the happy couple made in non edible craft clay mounted on a mirror stand created from photos supplied by the groom.

The 2 tier cake made from plain sponge cake with a butter cream filling looked out of this world! If you are familiar with Star Trek and the Borg you will know the cube is surrounded by a lattice of pipes and wires. This was recreated using intricately piped sheets of chocolate added in layers with hand painted details. The photos really don`t do it full justice.

Monkey cake

Aug 3rd, 2011 Posted in Birthdays, Celebrations | 1 Comment »

Celebrating a new arrival to the family is a special occasion and one that has lost of meaning to the parents and their friends and family.

With this in mind a brief was given to Combine Cakes to produce a cake featuring Brian (an adopted monkey) holding the new baby in a towel covered in pineapples and parsnips (don’t ask why). The plain sponge cake is covered in milk chocolate fur and contrasting dark chocolate face. The baby and blanket are sculpted from icing and hand painted to pick out the pineapple and parsnip design.

Burger

Jul 14th, 2011 Posted in Birthdays, Celebrations | No Comments »

Made to celebrate Julie’s birthday at Stonebroom Pre-School.

This cake may look small but it was around 7″ tall! The top bun was made from madera cake and the bottom was an orange cake, with a giant chocolate cookie for the burger in the middle.

Every detail was made out of chocolate, even the cheese and tomatoes. The cake looked so realistic that some of the children (who did not like cucumber) refused to eat it until they found out it was chocolate!
